Tallinn’s Christmas market is the second best in Europe

According to a study by Christmas Tree World, a UK-based website for the delivery of artificial Christmas trees, the Christmas market in the Estonian capital, Tallinn, is the second best in Europe.

“One of the most modern Christmas markets on the list, Tallinn in Estonia offers visitors a snowy wonderland. The Christmas market lasts 44 days and is popular on Instagram with over 4,000 mentions,” the site says. website.

In the accompanying press release, the company also states that Tallinn’s Christmas market is one of the most beautiful in Europe.

The methodology of the study is however rather simplistic, to put it mildly. The study calculates a score based on the number of days the market is open, its monthly Google search volume, the average price of three and four star hotels in the city (sourced from booking.com) and the number of Instagram mentions .

“Each market was given a normalized score out of 10 for each of the above factors, before an average of these four scores was taken for the overall Christmas Market score out of 10,” the website says.

According to the study, the best Christmas market in Europe is in Wroclaw, Poland. Düsseldorf, Germany, comes third; Zagreb, Croatia fourth; and Prague, Czech Republic, fifth.

Basel, Switzerland, is ranked sixth; Cologne, Germany, came seventh; Strasbourg, France, eighth; Vilnius, Lithuania, is ranked ninth; and Budapest, Hungary, completes the top ten.

This year, the Tallinn Christmas Market will open on November 25 and end on January 8, 2023.
